Cancellation
OFFICIAL STATEMENT – MELA CANCELLED THIS WEEKEND
The torrential weather has meant the cancellation of this year’s Mela on 18 and 19 July in Albert Park, for the first time 19 years.
Unfortunately we as Middlesbrough Council and the Middlesbrough Mela Management Committee have had to make the difficult decision to cancel the event, for health and safety reasons. The rain is set to continue throughout the next 36 hours and this combined with strong winds mean we cannot provide a safe event for the public.

Change it to another date dont let the town down please thanks…. dont let this successfull Mela go to waste every one has had high hopes.
If you go to other Mela such as Bradford Mela and Leeds Mela there is a load of trouble there the acts on stage get bottles thrown at them and their council still make the Mela for them which is pretty sad when they dont deserve it as much as all us Boro people do .
At Boro Mela it is a trouble free event……every one gets on with people no one throws glass bottles on the stage like other Mela and we least deserve a cancellation out of all the mela in the UK its the 19th year…….. and has always been a good event for all ethnic backgrounds. ARRANGE IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE GIVE THE TEESIDE COMMUNITY SOMETHING THEY DESERVE MORE THEN MOST OTHER TOWNS / CITIES
hey people
If you checked the weather its going to be a really nice day with a bit of mild showers and todays weathers was great. I really find it difficult to belive that you cancelled it becasue of the weather. i think it was cancelled to other reasons ?
whats going on when are you going to tell us the truth
plzzz re arrange it plzzz!! no way we are waiting for next year.. plzzz… its not even first time that we had the rain!! even with the rain the past mela events have always been busy…i agree on Mariam i 2 have waited and waited for this year and look what has happned
i also agree on Bazz at boro mela its trouble free event and teesside community need to have what they deserve!! DONT LET US DOWN WE DESERVE IT!!
On the Middlesbrough Council logo it says moving forward.
By cancelling the Mela that is not a way forward that is a huge step backwards.. sort the mela we want one as soon as possible thanks

respect peeps
It has rained for 3 years in a row on the same date for Boro Mela, im sure you should have realised that a differant date should be arranged.
SORT IT OUT!
How disappointing! I love taking my family to the mela – we love the stalls, the food, the acts, the atmosphere, the diversity and the people. It’s understandable the park will be like a bog but surely all the organising that has already taken place, a little more organising to the change the date would be preferable to a full cancellation?? Please think about it
such a shame i was really looking forward to not being able to park my car outside my own home o well roll on next year and hopefully more rain

Mannn, you should not have cancelled the mela!!! I mean look at the weather today, its sunny, warm etc you cannot trust the english weather.
I am sure there are lots of disappointed people outthere in middlesbrough and other regions! especially ladies!! we love the stalls, clothes, jewellery etc most of us wait until the mela to buy stuff.
anyway what a disappointing day, very depressed and sad>
is the mela not going to be on:(
plzz can yu arrange for it coz i had a lot of hope for this mela and a lot of things planned ?
pleaseee !!!!!!!!!!!!!
itzz not just me loadz are ppl aare askin !
plzz arrange it for anuva daii not for me but on behalf on thousands that wer gunna make this day history:D!
It’s such a shame the mela was cancelled, the health and safety reasons in the park are valid but could it not have relocated to the town centre on a smaller scale where it used to be? The stalls could have gone down the walkway in front of the lawcourts, a stage in front of the Mima and the town centre woud have had additional visitors…. especially with the weather today, at least something would have been salvaged!
Lol as soon as the management committe and middlesbrough council announced the mela was cancelled…. THE RAIN STOPPED AND SUN CAME OUT
Today (SUNDAY) is Very sunny and great weather
Too hasty to make a decision – bet council workers started to moan ‘were not working in the rain’ or ‘ we want danger money its raining’
the date of the mela needs to be changed if is was held 2 weeks ago it would have been great i knew then that it would rain on mela weekend it always does!
or well at least crows fairs are still there Today
look you cancel it and the weathers good 2day!! i know u can never rely on the british weather but you gotta think logically lol..anyway anyword on it being re-aranged? pleasee consider it coz alot of people love the mela and r dissapointed..
i cannot believe u had to cancel on fri could u not ov checked the weather properly lol its nyc today as well sunny n cloudy may ov had lil bit of rain who cares i was sooo lukn forward to see the acts esp Signature……
oh my gosh i cant believe its been cancelled it only comes once a year, can it simply not be reschedueled, and every year on this day it usually rains so should have they not come to the conclusion to change the dates.
cant believe its cancelled
TODAY HAS NOT EVEN RAINED THE GRASS IS FINE WHAT A LOVELY DAY WE HAD I HOPE THE COUNCIL MAKE UP FOR THIS!! THANKSS
well it didn’t rain at all so much for the torrential rain, I hope you’re happy.
here’s what i think (purely my opinion): the descion to cancel the mela had NOTHING to do with the weather. the weather has been fine all weekend (as we can all see now). i think it had to do more with a particular FLU that is going ’round if you get my drift!!! everyone complaining on this forum is proof that middlesbrough council had alreday pre-decided that this mela was never going to go ahead anyway. this is beacause quite simply middlesbrough cannot cope with hundreds (possibly) thousands of people getting ill over this flu all at once, lol, can you imagine it! anyway this is my opinion, all im saying dont be so niave thinking it has all to do with the weather as it has rained tons of times in the past and mela still went ahead, so again i come back to my point it never even rained! once the acts have been cancelled it will be difficult to re-book them as it will be down to availibilty and it is very unlikely to get all the acts again on the same day. i think the mela is not going ahead until everyone is vaccinated aginst that flu!!!!!!!!!!!
i think that the mela shud be aranged for another day bcoz middlesbrough cant go with out a mela for a year. newcastle normally have their melas in august this year its in september so please can the council arange something.
thanks
actualy glad it was on coz the grass wud ov been muddy as heck but ah well hopefully next yr ey….
x
man i was lookin forward 2 dis mela i was gonna cum from birmz but skeen , y did u have 2 cancell ih heard der’s a lot of gash here safe blud but lissen reschedule for ya people of ya town ya get me . keep ih locked safe
The mela has been cancelled due to a misguided weather warning i quote the mela website as stating “The rain is set to continue throughout the next 36 hours” but by saturday 12 noon the rain had stopped. The organisers should except responsibilty for the error and give middlebrough its Mela. The middlesbrough towns people should not suffer due to the incompetent organisers who have let everyonE down, RE- ARRANGING THE MELA will do everyone justice will not leave the organisers red faced
hi
its strange how ppl r forgetting that the weather was REALLY bad on Thursday and Friday.
Obviously, it has rained on more or less all the past melas but this year, it has rained too much.
Im quite sure that had the rain not been as bad it would have gone ahead – alot of money -your taxpayer money – has been pumped into the event and its not happend!
so sad and angry to hearing about the mela was cancelled at weekend me and my sister look forward to that every year its one of the things we live for please rearrange the date don’t let all of the boro down we need something to look forward to please please please change the date
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER TILL NEXT YEAR AND I CAN’T WAIT THAT LONG NEITHER CAN ABOUT 3-4000 PEOPLE
GET IT SORTED WE WANT OUR MELA
please can you re-arrange the mela
hello
people are saying that th mela is something which they deserve; as if its some kind of reward!
it like anything else, if all is well it will happen. otherwise, it will not.
remember last year, we only had summer for a couple of days and loads of events got cancelled. they wer not rescheduled.
im sure the acts booked for the mela wil have other bookings; they r not obliged to keep their diaries free simply for the teesside people!!!
it wud b nice to have a mela, but ppl must b more considerate of all factors!
please put the mela back on im beggin yah
please can council re-arrange the mela to some other date.
well said Boro Pathan!! i doubt it they can get the same acts again….. and herd there is protest on 27th july at mima!! r urs serious?? lol
i finkk the mela shud be on this sunday i aint here after tht for 2 weeks xx
hi i think the mela should be rescheduled, its a real shame it was cancelled. my family were really looking forward to the mela. xx
please people rearrange the mela, it only happens once in a year and we want it to happen. please, please, pleasee rearraneg it to another day
please rearrange the mela
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE PUT THE MELA BACK ON MAN!!! PLEAAAAASSSEE!!!!!!
pleas rearrange the mela. we need it so please put the mela back on
sum ppl have told me the boro mela is back on the 2nd august is it tru plz reply back x and if say wil we have the same acts i have been told there could be a possibility ??
is this a rooma
is the mela on or wat
a good decision to cancel-sensible, even though an important asian festival was missed for families. people should understand that heavy rain takes days to dry and the thousands of people dressed up and in high heels would have sunk in the muddy grass.people slipping and frowning over their mucky picnics would then complain to say they were’nt warned!!
inshalla -next year. it’s not the end of the world!is it?
What I dont understand is why people making a big issue over the mela being cancelled? Get over it folks there are so many other mela happening if you are so concerend with going to the mela go out of town. The shopping aspect of the melay are good but the crowd and fighting between youths is so childish. Im glad the mela got cancelled, the weather was over prior to the event I would have been covered in mud!
