This year 17th – 18th July
Welcome to the 2010 Middlesbrough MELA in association with Middlesbrough Council, the most spectacular multi-cultural celebration in the Tees Valley and the biggest in the North East. We celebrate our 20th Mela at our Albert Park home this year and bring you a wonderful mix of excellent world class music, local talent, the fabulous Mela Bazaar, workshops and the new Open Performance Arena where anyone can perform on Celebrate Sunday.
Activate Saturday on the 17th July is dedicated to sports, health & fitness and overall wellbeing. There will also be a great programme of local entertainment, headed up by ‘Xtn’ with a spectacular array of local sporting talent. This is definitely a day to participate and activate, or just enjoy watching the professionals and local groups show off their fantastic skills.
Witness the famous Celebrate Sunday MELA on the 18th July, a day we’ve all come to know and love with world class main stage artists including the much welcomed return of last year’s headline act, HunterZ and 2008 Britain’s Got Talent finalists, Signature. Of course there is all of the added enjoyment that’s on offer throughout both days of fairground rides, children’s rides and the Mela Bazaar. If you want to perform in the new Open Performance Arena for local talent on Sunday, bring your music and sign up. We’re on the lookout for new talent and particularly encourage performances from Tees Valley’s global communities.
For both days we will be providing a dedicated place to enjoy your food in the Big Lunch covered seating area. Bring your own food or choose from our array of food stalls in the Mela Bazaar selling delicious meals and snacks.
Plus don’t forget that Cineworld is showing a Mela Special of two films, Kites and Raajneeti over the Mela weekend and the Dorman Museum will be offering Mega Mela Mask Making in the Museum Gardens on Celebrate Sunday.
