The Mela Bazaar and the Global Village

The new Global Village is an essential part of the great Mela Weekend experience so make sure you don’t miss it!

You can always expect an irresistible array of wares from the Mela Bazaar and this year promises to live up to its reputation with foods, fashions and accessories as well as an excellent local information one-stop shop.  But, having talked to you, we’ve made a few changes to make your shopping (and browsing) experience even better!

You will still find the abundance of favourites in the Mela Bazaar Avenue and in the Main Stage Arena, but be sure to venture into the Global Village where there are a few surprises in store.

We know how much you love to discover beautiful, traditional and contemporary treasures and the Global Village Arts and Crafts Bazaar is the place to look.  Fabulous!

Food is an important tradition in all cultures and a great way to experience the world is to try those different flavours. As always there is the delicious temptation of Indian foods and desserts, but why not also visit the Global Food Village?  Here you can try Mexican flavours from the brand new Burrito Bus and how about some great classics such as corn on the cob, kebabs and jacket potatoes.  Chinese food is always a favourite but then there’s also fresh, juicy mangoes! Mouth watering! A Taste of Africa means more than just good food! Yes, on both days, Tees Valley’s ‘Taste of Africa’ is treating us to a rich mix of dance, music and gorgeous flavours from the sub Saharan continent.

And where better to enjoy these delicious goodies than in the BIG LUNCH marquee!  Read all about it on page 15.

More?  Yes!  The Global Village has the Global Workshops Marquee on both days (make sure you book where necessary), the Dance Infusion Marquee on Saturday becomes the Infusion Marquee on Sunday with a real melting pot of music from around the world.

Not forgetting the children, there’ll be face painting and activities for the younger ones too. And on Sunday there’s the Boys Bollywood workshop in the Global Workshops Marquee, which is exclusively for boys aged 8 – 11 (booking recommended)

So be sure to join the new look Global Village party. It’s going to be great!
